100% accurate. It wasn't until I started building things that I started looking for problems at work or in my day-to-day life that an application or program could solve. The first one was a calculator that would determine how much food each food truck needs based on the estimated guests we would be serving, the first one was basic. By the third generation of the app, I had it email each cook and driver a copy and a copy to a database. Now I have a program that crawls my database and collects relevant info so we can create forecasts. For the next iteration I plan on creating a model so I can build my own AI, more accurately Machine Learning program that calculates variables or parameters like the weather, the day, the season, etc. This is when I turned the corner. I turned an old Galaxy phone into an email server and built a GUI for it and even had it running publicly for a very short time. I built a full website and built the backend using only low-level socket programming and hosted using built-in libraries baked into Python. Made my own crypto market and coins using no forks and I'm currently working on building several trading bots that will simulate a crypto market and buy and sell crypto with each other on the exchange. Built a honeypot website and created a bunch of rudimentary hacking exercises for hackers to play around with on my site. I collect their attack methods and I use several tracking techniques to obfuscate my tracking methods. In essence, we learn from each other. Built an application that takes spreadsheet data about up and coming catering events amd sorts that info into relevant classes to which staff in particular positions have access to that information and have it displayed in a clean digestible GUI that can be accessed via the internet Wanted to play tetris but didn't want to pay money for it, built my first one in Python by watching a tutorialm It was okay. But, i wanted a better version so i built the second one in C#. Didn't watch a tutorial because I've played around with the language in Unity before and there are logical similarities between Python and C# and I was able to build my own version by looking up syntax and arguments here and there. Then I watched a turorial on how to build one in C# properly so I could see what I did wrong and how to do it better. So really now, I think about what kind of program I want to build and then I choose a language that would best suit the needs of the program. After coding for a while, all the languages become an abstraction and the differences in syntax and structure kind of become nuanced. It's kind of pointless to try and remember everything anyway, the structure of most languages is the same or similar. By the way, I'm a cook, not a programmer, I just do this for fun because I like to make sh^t. I think a lot of people put too much pressure on themselves focusing on the endgame benefits when really it's all about the journey. Hello, world!

There was this girl who was a pretty famous memepage admin and she would always flex her job as a computer science major. She would put down everyone else she saw as inferior. As a beginner who never chose a stem major in his life before, that ruined it a bit for me and I'm glad this video mentioned ~those~ types of people and how discouraging they can be. Sure, they can push me to get better out of spite and I tend to do that a lot. But it's not very healthy at the end of the day

Thanks for ACTUALLY speaking to beginners and not just acting like this should all be so easy and intuitive. I first watched a video that was supposedly targeted towards beginners a few months ago when I started trying to learn to program and I was discouraged by how much info the creator sprayed that was completely foreign and unhelpful for me. It made me feel like I shouldn't bother. I wish I had this video available to me at the time - your empathy is commendable and comforting and I appreciate your advice.

See, this right here is a great example of why post-secondary education - formal college training - is so vital to professional technology fields. You absolutely can learn to think critically. It can be taught to anyone. All you need to do is study a few kinds of math, two logic classes, and fundamentals of programming. By the third year of college, you're in shape to start packing in coding languages, and just focus on syntax, functionality, and best practices. It is possible to learn this stuff correctly. But you have to do the work, and do it in the most efficient way to maximize the time and the relevance of the skills learned in that time. As fast as technology is advancing today, humans have fierce competition from ever-improving artificial intelligence systems (code). We have to roll up our sleeves and buckle down. College environments have the existing structure to promote and foster that learning. The key is to know what to study, and in what order.

Comparing to others isn't bad, it just might not be utilized correctly. Try to surpass everyone you know at every aspect of your knowledge. Find what they know that you don't and fix that(preferable with their help). This way from an average dumb surrounding you can become above the average dumb making the knowledge of everyone you know a subset of your own knowledge. Once you above average find a new group, where you would be average again(it might be quite uncomfortable and unpleasant at first). Rinse and repeat, don't compare yourself to some dumb person you once was or who once was near you. Only move forward and remember there is always someone smarter. Eventually you'll hit something impossible to compete against, that's when you stop competing and start cooperating. Enjoy your life, have more money than you can spend, and try to make something good(even if your path was hard and unfair, don't loose faith in people and humanity - think of it as your new role that matches your acquired skill set). Once you have enough money the game is different - other things become important. There are problems that are not solvable with skill or money. Some problems are just to hard(like you can solve it, but it would cost all your remaining time). So find the ones that you can solve and continue. The proper solution to hard problems is to bring more people to your level, so that for them things like money, health, etc also become the issues of the past and then the hard-for-you problem might become the not-so-hard-for-a-group problem. P.S. Life is often unfair, yet sometimes the superior party just plays with you and does not really mean your ultimate defeat, thus can switch sides if sees something. So don't give up, there are "miracles" and yet unseen opportunities that you should be ready for. Don't count on it either - it is just luck.

It was a dumpster fire before, too. I mean, we are talking about the kind of companies that are so politically corrupt that they banned the president of the US before the official account for hamas, a literal terrorist organization whose direct, stated goal is murdering other people. The same companies that created a "secret cabal" to "secure" the 2020 election, according to the exact wording of--and I'm not kidding here--a new york times article that describes that the leftist media conglomerate was planning on staging riots and storming government buildinfs if their candidate didn't win. As in, just like what happened on Jan 6th, but if Trump had won instead of Biden. I don't care how much you hate Trump. I don't like him either. But no matter how you look at it, that's ridiculous. All of social media is a political clown show and it always will be. Because US politics is a clown show

One of my instructors while I was in school taught us to break the problem down in simple terms. Instead of looking at it as numbers, data, and elements, look at them in something that makes more sense to you. For me, as an aviation mechanic, it was easier to think of the items of the terms of airplane hydraulic fluid moving through the system. This helped me so much.

One last step is see if you ENJOY sitting at a computer, looking at a screen, editing code, FULL TIME FOR THE REST OF YOUR CAREER, to make your "daily bread". Maybe you'd rather climb the ladder to become a captain of an airliner, or a surgeon saving lives, etc. Figure out this sh** early in your education. Collaboration is not about this 7:00 When you find a group that actually pulls the same rope, you'll notice that. Those are the guys you should collaborate with again. Don't pull the stone sleigh, your time is way more valuable than that. This only applies if you are the "guy on the left". If you are anyone else, just drop out, you won't make it and that's the cruel reality, stop wasting the time of those who has what it takes.

On the subject of networking: DON'T. Networking for the sake of networking is, atleast for me, very taxing. I've spent hours and hours on end trying to teach the simplest of things to people as dim as the sauna lantern just because I was "networking". When you find that person who's smarter than you, then by all means befriend them, don't "network" them. Or when you find a person you can see eye to eye, then befriend them, but don't network them. When the time comes to seek employment, you'll do squat with the "network" you've created. If anything, there will be those who try to benefit of your hard work because you are in their "network". When in working environment, that's not "networking" anymore, that's simply a hierarchy of experience.

Me personally I get bored extremely fast the moment I stop facing problems. Not to brag, but I learn things somewhat quickly. Working at big tech is extremely tedious for people like me who need that challenge. Working at "small"-tech keeps on throwing "problems" to solve at me. These problems allow me to constantly learn and the more I learn the more valuable I become. For person like me, small tech will be more lucrative in the sense of learning, but also in the sense of money when they can employ one person who can and wants to do it all instead of multiple half-assing people. Now of course the projects are much smaller or slower in scale which in itself grows the boredom levels at times, but in the large scale this is the way to go for smart, hard working people.

One thing @TheCodingSloth could mention in their "Where do you want to start" section is that Pyphon is the core language for cyber security. Almost all red malware / blue forensics / and yellow automation is built in python3. Regardless of where you go in the security space you'll eventually find that the pre-made tools can't do thing you need it to do and will have to script one yourself.
